American Public Education, Inc. (NASDAQ: APEI) is a leading provider of online post-secondary education focused primarily on serving the military and public service communities. American Public University System (APUS), wholly owned by APEI, comprises two universities American Military University (AMU) and American Public University (APU). APUS is regionally accredited and serves over 53,000 part-time students who live and work in all 50 states and more than 100 countries. APUS offers 76 degree programs and 48 certificate programs in fields ranging from homeland security, military studies, intelligence, and criminal justice to technology, business administration, public health, and liberal arts.

One of the first exclusively online universities, American Military University was founded in 1991 by a retired Marine Corps Major to meet the unique educational needs of the military - a mobile, adult population seeking a range of programs from traditional course offerings to those not typically found at institutions of higher learning such as counterterrorism, homeland security, and military intelligence. Since its inception, AMU has experienced tremendous growth, attracting personnel from all branches of the military.

In 2002, American Public University was founded to extend this successful concept to a broader array of aspiring adult learners seeking higher education through a robust and affordable online institution. By offering a wide-ranging curriculum, APU attracts civilians with no public service or military affiliation as well as students from the intelligence, public safety, and homeland security communities. In 2002, American Public University System was established to serve as the guiding organization for AMU and APU.

Affordability and accessibility are cornerstones of the success of American Public University System, which attracts an increasingly diverse array of active, adult learners. Undergraduate tuition at APUS is $750 per three-credit course. At the graduate level, tuition is $825 per three-credit course. The university system accepts military tuition assistance and offers Federal Student Aid (FSA). APUS also provides a university book grant, which supplies textbooks at no charge to undergraduates seeking academic credit who maintain satisfactory academic standing.

American Public University System has evolved into one of the world's leading distance learning institutions, providing relevant, student-focused, and affordable distance learning programs that prepare students for service and leadership in a complex world.
